Wellness Exams Q & A

What are wellness exams?

A wellness exam is a comprehensive evaluation of your entire health. You should have a wellness exam every year.

Though your primary care physician offers wellness exams to assess your general health, COR Healthcare Medical Associates also offers wellness exams focused specifically on heart health.

Because it’s the leading cause of death in the United States, a general check of the health of your heart, as well as risk factors, can get the care you need before complications develop.

Am I a good candidate for a wellness exam?

Your primary care physician can determine if you would benefit from a cardiac wellness exam from the experts at COR Healthcare Medical Associates. You could be considered a good candidate if you have:

  • Cardiac disease risk factors (high cholesterol, high blood pressure)
  • Diabetes
  • Family history of heart disease
  • Personal history of heart disease

You can also benefit from a wellness exam if you’re overweight or obese, smoke, or live a sedentary lifestyle.

What happens during wellness exams?

Your wellness exam at COR Healthcare Medical Associates is a comprehensive evaluation of your health with a focus on your heart and vascular wellness.

During your evaluation, the team will ask detailed questions about your personal health history, as well as your family history. The team also reviews your lifestyle habits, including diet, exercise routine, and daily stresses.

Then to assess you for heart disease risk factors, the team performs a physical exam and heart-health screenings, including:

  • Blood pressure check
  • Blood glucose measurement
  • Lipids checkup
  • Measurement of body composition

If members of the team have concerns about your heart health, they will suggest more specific testing like echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, stress test monitoring, and/or heart rhythm monitoring.

The full-service cardiology group offers many of these tests at the office so you quickly get the answers to your health questions and concerns.

After your wellness exam, the cardiology team reviews their assessment with you and offers recommendations aimed at treating or preventing heart disease. Your treatment plan can include nutritional therapy, an exercise program, and medication to improve your control over the conditions that increase your risk of heart disease.
